Status update 2026-07-20 — Full inventory gathered, migration plan drafted

Pulled live data from GuruRMM, ScreenConnect, and Syncro. Key findings that change the original scope:

  1. QuickBooks is on Becky's workstation (LAB-Becky), NOT the server. Enterprise 20.0 + 24.0 with full QB services running. Need to verify whether there's also a server-side instance on the 2008 box.

  2. Deskman is NOT on any RMM-visible machine — confirmed only on the 2008 server (lab-server), which has no RMM agent and no ScreenConnect session. Howard is working on getting RMM onto it for inventory.

  3. LAB-SVR (Server 2019) is an AD Domain Controller (LAB.lan) with DNS/DFS/File Server roles, but zero workstations are domain-joined. All 7 workstations are WORKGROUP. Decision needed on whether to domain-join or demote the DC.

  4. LAB-SVR IP is .82, not .81 as previously documented.

  5. 3.75 prepaid hours remaining — migration will exceed this.

Full migration plan with decision points documented in PROJECT_STATE.md and wiki updated.

Next steps: Get RMM on lab-server to inventory Deskman (version, data location, shares). Resolve decision points before executing.

Lab-server full inventory completed 2026-07-20 (via ScreenConnect backstage)

DeskMan is the ONLY workload to migrate. QuickBooks is NOT on this server (only on Becky's workstation). Key facts:

  • DeskMan: FoxPro/DBF app at C:\DeskMan, ~1.8GB total (734MB app + 1.05GB data). Shared as \lab-server\DeskMan via SMB. All 6 workstations connect concurrently (271-281 open files each). Config file amPath.ini points to \lab-server\DeskMan.
  • File shares: C:\shares (Backups, FileCabinet, IT Services, Profiles) also needs to move. Size TBD.
  • No database engine — raw DBF files, so migration is a file copy + share repoint.
  • No backup agent on this box. The dmBackup.BAT script is broken (target drive is 100MB).
  • Security issues: Guest account enabled and in use (Brian at .75), Remote Registry enabled, no AV.
  • Unknown machine at 192.168.1.135 (user "dana") actively connected — not in our fleet.

9 decision points documented in PROJECT_STATE.md including domain-join, DeskMan Server 2019 compatibility, hours budget (3.75 won't cover it), and the unknown endpoint.

Full migration plan with 4 phases drafted. Ready for decision-making before execution.
