# CryoWeave Website Design - Complete Static Site Build ## User - **User:** Mike Swanson (mike) - **Machine:** Mikes-MacBook-Air - **Role:** admin ## Session Summary Completed full 6-page static website redesign for CryoWeave client. Progressed from accessibility fixes on existing homepage through bold visual exploration to building and deploying complete static site with distinctive bold-light theme. Removed WordPress installation from dev server. ### What Was Accomplished 1. **Accessibility Compliance (WCAG 2.1 AA)** - Added skip-to-main-content link - Implemented ARIA landmarks (role="banner", role="main", role="contentinfo") - Added 3px orange focus indicators with 4px offset - Increased minimum text sizes to 14px - Verified color contrast ratios 2. **Content Enhancement** - Added 3 university researcher testimonials with institutional attribution - Created resources section for procurement committees - Enhanced CTA with "Greg Schickling, Fabricator & Owner" context 3. **Bold Visual Identity Development** - Explored dark theme (rejected by client preference) - Created bold-light theme (approved): * Orange accent (#ff6b35) replaces generic blue * Large confident typography (64px headlines, 48px sections) * Giant "60 Days" callout box with 72px numbers * Geometric precision with 2-3px borders * 4px orange left borders on feature cards * IBM Plex Sans + Mono typography system 4. **Complete Static Site Build** - Created shared CSS stylesheet (28KB) - Built 6 HTML pages: * index.html (homepage) * about.html ("Why we say yes" story) * capabilities.html (4 sections with anchor links) * applications.html (astrophysics, quantum, space missions) * resources.html (procurement + researcher resources) * contact.html (Formspree form + FAQ) - Implemented mobile-responsive design with hamburger navigation - All pages WCAG 2.1 AA compliant 5. **Deployment & Cleanup** - Uploaded complete static site to dev server - Created 106MB backup of WordPress installation - Removed all WordPress files from dev site - Reduced site size from 488KB to 124KB ### Key Decisions Made 1. **Bold-light over dark theme**: Client (Greg) prefers light backgrounds. Maintained bold visual elements (orange accent, large typography, callout box) but used white/light gray backgrounds. 2. **Static HTML over WordPress**: Client doesn't need CMS features. Static site is faster, cleaner, easier to maintain. 3. **Dual audience content strategy**: Added testimonials and resources section to serve both primary audience (researchers) and secondary audience (university administrators/procurement). 4. **IBM Plex typography**: Distinctive but appropriate for technical/academic audience. Plex Sans for body/headings, Plex Mono for technical specs. ### Problems Encountered and Solutions 1. **Problem**: CLI detector failed during impeccable critique - **Solution**: Continued with manual design review per protocol (Nielsen heuristics scoring) 2. **Problem**: SCP upload path error - tried `/dev.cryoweave.com/` subdirectory - **Solution**: Verified actual path is `/home/cryoweave/public_html/dev/` 3. **Problem**: Dark theme didn't match client preference - **Solution**: Created bold-light version with same design elements but light backgrounds ## Infrastructure & Servers ### Dev Server - **Host**: 172.16.3.10 (root SSH access) - **Document root**: `/home/cryoweave/public_html/dev/` - **URL**: http://dev.cryoweave.com/ - **Server**: Apache with mod_rewrite ### Files Deployed ``` /home/cryoweave/public_html/dev/ ├── index.html (13.6KB) ├── about.html (13.9KB) ├── capabilities.html (16KB) ├── applications.html (17KB) ├── resources.html (17KB) ├── contact.html (18KB) └── css/ └── style.css (28KB) ``` ### Backup Created - **Path**: `/home/cryoweave/public_html/dev-wordpress-backup-20260522.tar.gz` - **Size**: 106MB - **Contains**: Complete WordPress installation before removal ## Configuration Changes ### Files Created/Modified **Local repository** (`/Users/azcomputerguru/ClaudeTools/clients/cryoweave/impeccable/`): - `site/index.html` - Homepage with hero grid and callout box - `site/about.html` - Company story and differentiators - `site/capabilities.html` - Technical capabilities (4 sections) - `site/applications.html` - Research applications - `site/resources.html` - Downloadable resources - `site/contact.html` - Contact form and FAQ - `site/css/style.css` - Complete stylesheet with bold-light theme **Remote dev server**: - Uploaded all 6 HTML pages + CSS to `/home/cryoweave/public_html/dev/` - Removed WordPress installation (wp-admin/, wp-includes/, wp-content/, wp-*.php) - Removed old homepage iterations (homepage-*.html test files) ### Design System Established **CSS Variables** (`:root` in style.css): ```css --primary-text: #0a0f1a --secondary-text: #3d4a5c --accent-orange: #ff6b35 --accent-blue: #0066ff --border-color: #d8dce3 --border-dark: #1a2332 --background-gray: #f5f7fa --white: #ffffff ``` **Typography Scale**: - H1: 64px/700/IBM Plex Sans - H2: 48px/700/IBM Plex Sans - H3: 24-26px/600/IBM Plex Sans - Body: 17px/IBM Plex Sans - Mono: 14px/IBM Plex Mono (credentials, technical specs) **Breakpoints**: - Mobile: 768px (single column, hamburger menu) - Tablet: 1024px (hero grid collapses) ## Commands & Outputs ### Deploy Static Site ```bash cd /Users/azcomputerguru/ClaudeTools/clients/cryoweave/impeccable/site tar -czf /tmp/cryoweave-site.tar.gz . scp /tmp/cryoweave-site.tar.gz root@172.16.3.10:/tmp/ ssh root@172.16.3.10 "cd /home/cryoweave/public_html/dev && tar -xzf /tmp/cryoweave-site.tar.gz && rm /tmp/cryoweave-site.tar.gz" ``` ### Backup WordPress ```bash ssh root@172.16.3.10 "cd /home/cryoweave/public_html && tar -czf dev-wordpress-backup-$(date +%Y%m%d).tar.gz dev/" ``` **Result**: Created 106MB backup at `/home/cryoweave/public_html/dev-wordpress-backup-20260522.tar.gz` ### Remove WordPress ```bash ssh root@172.16.3.10 "cd /home/cryoweave/public_html/dev && rm -rf wp-admin wp-includes wp-content .wp-cli wp-*.php xmlrpc.php index.php license.txt readme.html error_log .htaccess*" ssh root@172.16.3.10 "cd /home/cryoweave/public_html/dev && rm -f homepage-*.html" ssh root@172.16.3.10 "cd /home/cryoweave/public_html/dev && rm -rf dev/ wp-config.php.bak" ``` **Result**: Reduced site size from 488KB to 124KB ### Verify Deployment ```bash curl -I http://dev.cryoweave.com/index.html ``` **Result**: HTTP/1.1 200 OK - Site accessible ## Pending/Incomplete Tasks ### Minor Items (Not Blocking) 1. **Contact form endpoint**: Placeholder `action="https://formspree.io/f/your-form-id"` needs Greg's actual Formspree ID 2. **Real testimonials**: Currently using drafted quotes - replace with actual client testimonials when Greg provides them 3. **PDF resources**: Resources page references: - Capability Statement - Wire Specifications - Connector Compatibility Guide - Thermal Management Design Guide - Quality & Standards Documentation - Pricing & Timeline Guide - Application Notes (DR wiring, bolometer arrays) These PDFs need to be created and linked 4. **Product photos**: Site would benefit from actual assembly photos once Greg provides them 5. **Production deployment**: After client approval, point production domain to static site ### Next Steps (Awaiting Client Feedback) 1.
