Complete vault and SOPS setup on Mac from scratch. Fixed critical
get-token.sh bugs (variable collision + directory depth), validated
vault sync from Windows, tested all 5 tiers.

Key accomplishments:
- Installed SOPS 3.12.2 + age 1.3.1 via Homebrew
- Configured age private key and SOPS environment
- Cloned vault repository with 6 SOPS files

## Critical Bugs Fixed
### Bug 1: Vault Path Variable Collision in get-token.sh
**Severity:** CRITICAL - Blocked all remediation-tool usage on all machines
**Root Cause:**
Variable name collision introduced in vault portability commits (0a7cd6b, a86df11).

**Result:**

Script checked if SOPS file path existed as a directory.
**Fix Applied (commit 90f9d9e):**

**Also fixed:** Directory traversal depth (3 levels → 4 levels to reach repo root)
**Why Windows worked before fix:**
Tokens were served from `/tmp/remediation-tool/` cache (55 min TTL). First acquisition succeeded before bug was introduced, subsequent calls used cached tokens.
### Bug 2: Submodule Auto-Update Creating Noise
**Issue:** sync script ran `git submodule update --remote` every sync
**Result:** Frequent commits like `M projects/msp-tools/guru-rmm`
**Why unnecessary:** Submodule location is fixed, not maintaining configuration
**Fix:** Removed lines 68-72 from `.claude/scripts/sync.sh`

## Issues Encountered & Solutions
### Issue 1: Git Auth Blocked in Claude Code Shell
**Problem:** `git clone vault` failed with "Device not configured"
**Cause:** Git cannot prompt for password in Claude Code terminal
**Solution:** User cloned in real Terminal.app with password prompt
**Documented in:** VAULT-SETUP-GUIDE.md troubleshooting
### Issue 2: vault.sh Line Endings
**Problem:** `env: bash\r: No such file or directory`
**Cause:** Vault cloned from Windows has CRLF line endings
**Solution:** `perl -pi -e 's/\r\n/\n/g' ~/vault/scripts/vault.sh`

### Issue 3: SOPS Age Key Not Found
**Problem:** vault.sh failed with "Failed to get the data key"
**Cause:** SOPS_AGE_KEY_FILE environment variable not set
**Solution:** Added to ~/.zshenv for persistence

**Decision:** Remove it from sync script
**Rationale:**
- Submodule location is fixed at `projects/msp-tools/guru-rmm`
- Auto-update creates commit noise every time GuruRMM has new commits
- Not maintaining configuration, actively updating pointer
- Manual update available: `git submodule update --remote`
